Is there a difference between heat settings? The simple answer to this question is, yes.
When changing a heater from High to Low, there is a difference between the two settings. Can you feel the difference with your hand? Probably not.
- The changes between the heat settings may include a slight fan speed change. Why a slight change? Heaters are not considered high velocity blowers so therefore the air output is not significant so the reduction must still remain effective, thus the slight variance in speeds. (does not apply to all models)
- There is always a change in the heat output. On Low, heater typically put out 7500 to 900 watts (model depending) When running a heater on low, it is 1500 watts. While this increase in current is rather large, the heater is already putting out a high temperature of heat on Low. Therefore the change to high is tough to tell from simply feel.
- How can you determine your heater is working correctly? A thermometer placed a safe distance in front of the heater will show the difference between settings. As will a watt meter as you will see the increase in both temperature and current.
