If there is mold in the humidifier tank and/or base, this could be due to the unit not being cleaned often enough, the water having excessive impurities in it, or the use of additives. Please consider the following:
- Most mold growth in humidifiers is largely due to two things. Lack of pure water usage, and lack of cleaning. A humidifier itself does not cause mold growth.
- There are a few ways to prevent humidifier mold growth. Instead of tap water, use distilled water, or filtered water in your unit. These options tend to have lower mineral counts than tap water and are less likely to develop mold. We recommend changing your water daily, and cleaning every 3-4 days.
- Hydrogen peroxide and vinegar are also worth using. A few drops of hydrogen peroxide or one cup of vinegar can kill bacteria and mold.
